November 12 Lesson Notes
November 12, 2021November 26 Lesson Notes
November 26, 2021– leading-tone diminished 7ths
> construct the chord on the raised 7th note of the minor key
> the remaining 3 notes are an interval of a minor-3rd (3 semitones) above the previous note (a total of four notes)
> alternatively – 1. start on the seventh note of a minor key 2. apply the key signature 3. apply the raised seventh note
> note – the raised seventh note of a minor key is always a semitone below the tonic (1st key)
> eg. leading-tone diminished 7th for g-minor
1. starting on the seventh note build up by three notes for 4 notes total – F-A-C-E
2. apply the key signature – F-A-C-Eb
3. apply the raised seventh – F#-A-C-Eb
Scales
– nice improvement!
– be careful not to accent the thumb
– work on c# minor
– review relative keys (major-minor pairs) – remember the interval, and which direction to go
> eg. C-major is the relative of a-minor
– add dynamics
– remember that e- formula pattern is harmonic form
Practice all keys for Chords
Game of Patience
– awesome work!
– remember to play accents in LH
– bar 1 – 8
> softer LH
> make sure all notes in LH are heard
> play sharper staccatos in LH
– from bar 9 – 20, practice starting from each bar – make sure you use the same fingering that you normally use
> also make sure to practice multiple bars together to ensure no melodic breaks between bars
– bar 17 and 19 – throw your hands at the accents more – be careful not to “launch” off the staccatos
> work on the loud to soft dynamic
Fluttering Leaves
– check pedal timing to catch the RH melodic notes
– try practicing at a high speed
– try practicing all staccato – make sure all notes are played staccato, and as sharp as possible
