Scales
– work on all major keys plus g- and e-
– minor key forms
> natural – key signature only
> harmonic – raise 7th note (up and down)
> melodic – raise 6th & 7th up, natural down
– relative keys share the same key signature
> from a major key, go down a minor 3rd (3 semitones) to find the relative minor
> from a minor key, go up a minor 3rd to find the relative major
Chords and Arpeggios
– work on all major keys plus g- and e-
– work on all major and minor keys for the Dominant and Leading-tone Diminished 7ths chords
– arpeggio fingering for 7th chords when starting on a black key
> RH thumb goes to the first available white key
> LH thumb goes to the last available white key
Game of Patience
– bar 9-12
> play the accents more strongly (drop wrists slightly)
> use a lighter tone on the second and third notes of the 3-note groups
> build up the sound more for the crescendo
– bar 13-16
> play sharper staccatos
> bar 13 and 15 – keep up the crescendo to the end of the bar
> drop the sound for bar 14 and 16
> work on no pauses or double/triple starts between bars
> keep your mind active when drilling
> drill in small sections keeping a goal in mind (eg. 1 bar plus beat 1 of the following bar)
> look for key notes to anchor to or visually focus on
> notice reset speed when drilling (the time it takes to reset between iterations)
