Choose 1-2 new songs to practice
Sight Reading
– nice work on Right Hand
– make sure your Left Hand is prepared on the notes before starting
– try to play your Right Hand and Left Hand at the same speed (be careful not to slow down when playing your Left Hand)
– work on Exercise 14 – 19
Song
– great work!
– try to keep a steady rhythm throughout for your intro; try not to pause
– start planning out the next part of your song (chorus/verse) and finding chords
Jingle Bells
– try to use your ear to find the notes for the whole song
– practice tapping out the rhythm of two beats in your Left Hand for every one beat in your Right Hand
– practice the Boogie Woogie pattern starting on C, F and G
Continue to practice C-major triad
Exercises to work on away from the keyboard:
5-finger exercise (can also be done on the keyboard)
1. hold all 5 fingers down
2. while holding down your fingers, play or tap each finger 5 times
– make sure the other fingers remain down
– try to keep your fingers curved as they hold
Finger Folds
1. Hold your palms and fingertips together
2. “fold” your 2nd fingers over one way, followed by the other
3. repeat with your other fingers
Combinations
– 2nd and 3rd finger
– 4th and 5th finger
– 2nd and 5th finger
– 3rd and 4th finger
– 2nd and 4th finger
– 3rd and 5th finger
C-major scale (also from the keyboard)
– on a flat surface, tap out the notes of the scale using correct fingering
– make sure to cross under with your thumb or over with your third finger
