February 16 Lesson Notes

Scales
– nice work!
– be careful with your fingering
– try to play with no pauses
– try playing with a swing rhythm (long-short)
– start practicing D+ (use the same fingering as C+)
> D-E-F#-G-A-B-C#-D

Triad
– try to keep your wrists straight
– play on the fingertips of your fifth fingers
– practice doubles and triples for solid
– check notes for broken

Composition
(same as last lesson)
– try to compose a song in d-minor or a-minor position for next lesson
– eg. A-E, A-F, A-E, G-D, A-E, A-F, A-E, B-D
– try to write it down on paper (so you remember what the notes are)

Sea Shanty
– bar 8 and 9 – work on match the speed of the beginning
– work on the last line – check the notes and remember to play the F-sharp
– add louds and softs

Icicle Rag
– practice slowly
– watch how the notes line up (check where your hands play together)
– practice from bar 9 to the end Hands Separately
– remember to play the B-flat
